The Fifth Beatitude

Context

The sermon continues.

The Saying

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” (Matthew 5, 7)

Subtlety

old hippie saying...
‘what goes around, comes around’
aka karma

insult a person
expect to be insulted
that is how it works

and it works both ways
being kind begets kindness
loving brings back love

here, it is mercy
though mercy can be tricky
being more subtle

receiving mercy...
not always so obvious
not all can see it

those who show mercy
are inclined to perceive it
and so do see it

in this they are blessed
for what is within the heart
is felt there as well
